Catalan Revolt Festival

In 2006, the first Catalan Revolt festival took place.

This festival aims to remind us of the historical events that took place during the spring of 1640 in our town and region when the village rose up against Felipe IV’s army and the Count-Duke of Olivares, provoking the Catalan Revolt.

The Casal Popular Independentista La Sega 1640 of Santa Coloma de Farners, founded in 2005, organizes this “festivity” with the intention of giving visibility to the culture, the land, the Catalan traditions and the historical memory.

The day consists of different educational and informative activities (talks, debates expositions...) and leisure activities (games for children, historical recreations, concerts...)

Activities such as the correfoc, which commemorates the fire that burned down most houses of the town on the 14th of May 1640; theatrical guided tours through the city center, touring the most important places from the revolt; and historical recreations that stage the arrival of the Tercios, the clothing of the time, bandit trials and others, stand out
